The Huffington Post has announced yet another raft of sub-editions with the launch of HuffPost50, HuffPost Gay Voices, HuffPost Weddings and HuffPost High School. Since being acquired by AOL in March 2011, the publication has set up 21 new verticals as part of the innovative multi-blog format. Set up by Arianna Huffington, the former wife of Republican Congressman Michael Huffington, The Huffington Post has published blog posts by senior US politicians and celebrities.
As part of the AOL buy-out, Arianna Huffington received $315 million in cash and The Huffington Post was rolled into the new Huffington Post Media Group. HPMG has bought out a series of “social” online businesses including Localocracy – a “groundbreaking online engagement platform enabling citizens to solve problems in their communities” bringing founders, Conor White-Sullivan and Aaron Soules into the fold as well as the tech lead, Jay Boice.
