The climber pouch

Clif Family Winery in California have released an ultra-light, shatterproof and flexible pouch for wine. The “Climber Pouch” holds the equivalent of two 750 ml bottles and has a resealable, one-way plastic spout which keeps opened wine fresh for up to a month in the fridge.

Winemakers Sarah Gott and Bruce Regalia oversee the production of the wines which fill the pouches including unoaked Chardonnay from Northern California’s Delta region and Cabernet Sauvignon from California’s Central Coast. Clif Family Winery owner Gary Erickson recommends using the Climber Pouch to keep wine fresh for the end of a day outdoors:

“A day spent out on the hiking or bike trail that ends with friends, food and wine is our idea of a perfect day. The portability and flexibility of the Climber Pouch lets outdoor enthusiasts of all types wind down their adventures with the pleasure of great wine.”

Innovative wine packaging has become something of a fad in recent years with the tetra pak design allowing wine to be made available in juice boxes as well as new carry cases being specially designed to protect wine bottles in hand luggage on aeroplanes.
