Na Li beat Maria Sharapova 6-4, 7-5 in a short match on Thursday 2nd June 2011 at the French Open in Paris. The Chinese star is now through to the women’s singles final at Roland Garros, where she will face the 2010 winner, Francesca Schiavone.
Schiavone made her place in the final match against the home favourite, Marion Bartoli. The pair were evenly matched in the first few games with both women having to find their stride when attempting abbreviated shots on the court – several fell short at the fence. Wind interrupted some serves and Schiavone incurred the wrath of the French crowd by questioning an issue with the umpire. The French star eventually proved too static for the flourishing Italian and was beaten 6-3, 6-3.
Na Li will face Francesca Schiavone in the women’s final of the French Open. On Friday 3rd June, Rafael Nadal will face Andy Murray at 2pm CET on the Court Philippe Chatrier followed by Roger Federer against Novak Djokovic in the men’s semi-finals.
