The Women’s Tennis Association is the principal organizing body of women’s professional tennis. It governs the WTA Tour which is the worldwide professional tennis tour for women and was founded to create a better future for women’s tennis.
Elise Mertens is a Belgian professional tennis player. A top 15 player in both singles and doubles, she achieved a her career-high singles ranking of world No. 12 on 26 November 2018. On 10 May 2021, she became world No. 1 in women’s doubles for the first time. In doubles, alongside Aryna Sabalenka, Mertens has won the 2019 US Open and the 2021 Australian Open.
It has an exceptionally diverse population, with Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and other religions speaking over 21 recognised languages.
