Australian Open 2012 Tennis: Kim Clijsters Through to Semi-Final After Beating No 1 Seed Wozniacki

Kim Clijsters (11), the holding Australian Open Champion, has made it through to the 2012 Semi-Final in fine style, after following up her terrific fourth round comeback against Li Na with a straight sets Quarter-Final victory over number one seeded Caroline Wozniacki (1).

Clijsters, in her final season of tennis, showed no little amount of ability, grit and determination in recording a 6-3 7-6 (7-4) win over the talented Dane.

The Belgian proved too strong for Wozniacki, who has, as in this match, at times in her career looked a little blown away when faced with a hard-hitting opponent, such as Clijsters.

Clijsters raced away to a one set and 5-2 lead, and seemed to have a slight wobble to let Wozniacki rally with the finish line in sight, but recovered to take the match on a second set tie-break and avoid the need for a third, decisive set. She showed no signs of being troubled by the twisted ankle which had threatened to derail her final Australian Open in the previous round against Li.

Again, Clijsters had the support of the crowd, who were ecstatic to watch her win in 1 hour and 45 minutes, primarily by wearing down Wozniacki with her customary powerful hitting.
