Robin Soderling became the first of the top seeds for the Men’s Australian Open Singles title 2011 to be knocked out of the tournament, as he fell to a five set defeat at the hands of unseeded Ukrainian Dolgopolov in the Fourth Round.
Despite cruising to a one set lead, in taking the opening set 6-1, Soderling exited the 2011 Australian Open after the match finished 1-6 6-3 6-1 4-6 6-2.
Alexandr Dolgopolov is ranked number 46 in the World: this must be considered the best victory of his career, as it puts him into his first Grand Slam Quarter Final.
Having already beaten Tsonga and now Soderling, Dolgopolov is set to discover what Grand Slam tennis is all about – he faces another tough opponent, last year’s beaten finalist, Andy Murray in the next round.
