Scotsman John Higgins has lifted the Snooker World Championship for a third time after he defeated the promising young player, Judd Trump 18-15 in the 2011 Final at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, on Monday 2nd May 2011.
Higgins overcame Trump, who knocked out last year’s World Champ, Neil Robertson, in the opening round, before playing some of the most entertaining snooker of the tournament en route to the final, with typical resilience and nerve, before Trump eventually made a couple of errors in the latter frames that Higgins capitalised upon.
At only 21 years old, however, Trump, who showed remarkable long potting and break-building abilities throughout the tournament, will have many more opportunities for success in the future, however, the 2011 title eluded him as a result of 35 year-old John Higgins’ wonderful staying power.
Speaking after the win, Higgins, who has now lifted the game’s biggest trophy three times, said he would target a total of seven World Championships, to equal the record set by compatriot Stephen Hendry in the 1990s.
