The polar exploration ship, Tara, will finish a scientific expedition round the Arctic with Christmas celebrations in the harbour of Lorient and Porte de Versailles.
The ship and crew will be completing a 7 month trip to collect 5,000 plankton samples from the Northern Oceans. The 25,000 kilometer voyage saw the researchers traverse the Northeast and Northwest passages in a single season, in order to understand how oceans are reacting to major changes, assess mercury levels, and measure the concentration of plastic particles in the sea.
On Saturday 7th December, the ship will dock in Lorient from 17:30 – 19:00 and join the celebrations for the lighting of the city’s Christmas lights. There will be a special illumination of the docks and boats, music from a brass band, and mulled wine for revellers. Documentary films of Tara’s expeditions will be screened on the night.
On Sunday 8th December, Tara will dock in Paris from 14:30 – 16:00 at the Salon Nautique de Paris (Porte de Versailles). Tara will celebrate her 10th anniversary and her return from the Arctic expedition with the presence of the whole team.
