Horse Racing Results: Meydan, January 12 2012, Race 7, 22:15, Etisalat 4G

The concluding race of the night at Meydan on Thursday 12th January 2012 was the 7th race, the 22:15 Etisalat 4G, which was a Handicap run over 2000M (approximately 1m2f) on the Turf.

The race was taken by one of three Godolphin horses in the event, though not, perhaps, that which many expected to lift the USD $72,000 winners prize, as Songcraft showed yet more improvement under Silvestre De Sousa to win his third race out of three. The lightly raced Saeed bin Suroor trained gelding beat the more seasoned Belgian Bill by half a length in good style, with the highly tried Mikhail Glinka placed third under Ryan Moore.

It will be interesting to see where connections go with Songcraft next, as the horse has won each start, doing just enough. In this event, Songcraft showed good speed to track down and pass Belgian Bill and looked to have plenty in reserve when the line arrive. Perhaps, with this performance, this four year old gelding, who has clearly improved for a lay-off, has earned a shot at a more prestigious, non-handicap event later in the year?
