UK Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday 11 January 2017

Four race meetings are to take place on Wednesday 11th January 2017 in the UK.

Afternoon National Hunt takes place at Taunton and Hereford, while all weather flat racing is up at Newcastle. An evening of all weather racing under lights at Kempton Park – which yesterday announced it may close to be replaced by housing some time after 2021.

Fortuno has been through the cards and arrived at eight selections, all with a focus on value.

Nap of the Day is a solid each way selection at a price of 6/1. Jack the Laird which goes in the 7.15 at Kempton for Dean Ivory under jockey Robert Winston. This horse was in good form over similar distances over turf and all weather before putting in somewhat flat performances on return runs the last two times out. A tongue tie is added today, and, if making the difference, has the talent to at least make the frame off a reasonable handicap mark.

Next Best for Wednesday is a really interesting contender, which has been backed in from 80/1 to 14/1 in the morning. Sugarloaf Mountain makes a first appearance for Brian Ellison in the 2.30 at Newcastle after being bought in for £10,000 from the Aiden O’Brien yard in the autumn. Gelded since then, this horse has clearly got some supporters, and is nicely bred to make an impact at today’s 1m2f trip. An excellent value each way chance which wouldn’t need to be a world-beater to win today.

All selections for Wednesday’s racing are shown with indicative morning prices, correct at the time of publication, for your reference.
