UK Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday 24 January 2017

UK racing on Tuesday 24th January 2017 comes from Leicester (National Hunt), Wetherby (National Hunt) and Southwell (all weather (fibresand), flat), with all races taking place in the afternoon.

Fortuno has been through the cards after a disappointing start to the week on Monday saw only place money from seven selections. The Global Herald‘s resident tipster will be hoping for more and better today.

Nap of the Day for Tuesday is given as the David Evans trained Archie Stevens which runs in the 2.40 event at Southwell. This gelding is down in grade having put in some improved performances of late, and is taken to continue that generally upward curve today under Andrew Mullen. Is nicely handicapped and well overdue a return to the winner’s enclosure. Price has been nipped in to 4/1 in the early betting.

Next Best for the day is one at a longer price, giving each-way backers something to ponder: Mark Johnston sends Baileys Apprentice to Southwell to take part in the 1m handicap 1.40 event. The price is in to a still-value 12/1 for this filly to get her nose in front for the first time. Must be forgiven a couple of below par events the last twice, most recently at Kempton after a short break, but if recapturing summer form in maidens is weighted nicely today, and will be partnered by Joe Fanning. Strong place claims if returning to her best.
