There are four race meetings taking place in the UK on Thursday 12th January 2017.
Jumps racing takes place at Leicester and Catterick Bridge, while a card of flat all weather racing which will finish under lights takes place at Newcastle. An entirely floodlit fixture of all weather flat racing will start at Chelmsford City at 5.50pm.
Fortuno, who picked a lot of placed each way selections yesterday, is hoping for a little more from today’s seven selections, which again have an eye on January value for followers.
Nap of the Day is one such value selection, Moamar makes his second appearance for Ed Dunlop in the 4.00 at Newcastle, at an eye-catching price of 12/1 (overnight prices of 18/1+ have now disappeared). This nicely bred filly is out of Palitana, full sister to 2000 Guineas wnner Footstepsinthesand, and by the Australian Group 1 champ, Sepoy. After a disappointing, green, debut over 1m at Chelmsford City just before Christmas, improvement must be seen as highly likely. If this horse shows his class today, double figure odds will look ridiculous. A solid each way opportunity under Tom Eaves.
Next Best for Thursday is in the marathon extended 3m5f chase at Catterick, where Sue Smith sends Straidnahanna to be ridden by Danny Cook. This horse has won on this tight undulating course over 3m1f twice, so if forgiven a so-so jumping round on reappearance at Doncaster last time out, and if enjoying this longer trip, looks like a good opportunity at 6/1 to at least make the frame for respected connections.
All other selections for Thursday are detailed below, with early indicative prices, in order of race time.
