UK Horse Racing Tips: Monday 16 January 2017

Three race meetings will take place on Monday 16 January 2017, with National Hunt at Plumpton and Ayr, and a card of all weather flat racing at Wolverhampton.

Fortuno has been through the cards to arrive at seven selections with the usual focus on each way value, detailed at the bottom of this page.

Nap of the Day for Monday is the Rose Dobbin trained Smuggler’s Stash, which runs in the 3.15 at Ayr under Craig Nichol. This gelding won nicely at Hexham under similar conditions to today, before disappointing under 8lbs more at Wetherby last time out under David Noonan. Reunited with Nichol, who won on him in Northumberland, this horse is taken to be forgiven that bounce, and return to what was an upward curve today. Odds of 13/2 make for a nice each-way prospect, as has the quality to at least make the frame.

Monday’s Next Best is Jamie Osborne’s Brother in Arms which runs in the 2.20 at Wolverhampton. This horse has Jamie Spencer on board today, for a second visit to a racecourse, and is given a chance to put a so-so debut firmly behind him today. A step up in trip does pose a question mark, but if taking the experience from that first run, and suited by today’s trip, 13/2 seems a nice each-way price in a race without too much depth.

Full selections for Monday’s racing are detailed below.
