  • Racing TV published this video item, entitled “Japan Cup winner FALBRAV and Darryll Holland beat Nayef in a hot renewal of the 2003 Coral-Eclipse” – below is their description.

What a classy performer Falbrav was. Bred in Ireland but raced in Italy until joining Luca Cumani as a five-year-old. After winning the Eclipse, he went on to take the Juddmonte International, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot and the Hong Kong Cup, as well as finishing a close-up third in the Breeders’ Cup.

Cumani reflected years later: “My only regret with Falbrav is that I didn’t get him earlier in his career. He won five Group 1s for us and it would have been six had he not been nearly put through the rails in the Irish Champion Stakes – it could have been seven had Darryll not kicked too early in the straight at Santa Anita in the Breeders’ Cup Turf. He was an exceptional horse with raw power and incredible ability.”

    In This Story: Hong Kong

Hong Kong, officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (HKSAR), is a metropolitan area and special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China on the eastern Pearl River Delta of the South China Sea. With over 7.5 million residents of various nationalities in a 1,104-square-kilometre (426 sq mi) territory, Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated places in the world.

Hong Kong became a colony of the British Empire after the Qing Empire ceded Hong Kong Island at the end of the First Opium War in 1842. The colony expanded to the Kowloon Peninsula in 1860 after the Second Opium War and was further extended when Britain obtained a 99-year lease of the New Territories in 1898. The whole territory was transferred to China in 1997. As a special administrative region, Hong Kong maintains separate governing and economic systems from that of mainland China under the principle of “one country, two systems”.

  • In This Story: Ireland

Ireland is an island in the North Atlantic. It is separated from Great Britain to its east by the North Channel, the Irish Sea, and St George’s Channel.

Geopolitically, Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland (officially named Ireland), which covers five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. As of 2016, 4.8 million people live in the Republic of Ireland, and 1.8 million live in Northern Ireland.

The Irish climate is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean and thus very moderate, and winters are milder than expected for such a northerly area, although summers are cooler than those in continental Europe. Rainfall and cloud cover are abundant.

A strong Irish culture exists, as expressed through Gaelic games, Irish music and the Irish language. The island’s culture shares many features with that of Great Britain, including the English language, and sports such as association football, rugby, horse racing, and golf.
