Donald McCain – My life in racing | Luck On Sunday | Ballabriggs | Overturn | Peddlers Cross

Racing TV published this video item, entitled “Donald McCain – My life in racing | Luck On Sunday | Ballabriggs | Overturn | Peddlers Cross” – below is their description.

Donald McCain makes a belated first appearance on Luck On Sunday and reveals that he’s in the best place he’s been in for a long time after an eventful time as a racehorse trainer since assuming the licence from his father, the legendary Ginger McCain, back in the 2006/07 National Hunt season.

The trainer has amassed over 1,000 winners from his Bankhouse base in Cholmondeley, Cheshire and tells us more about his formative years, learning from his father Donald ‘Ginger’ McCain and his time as an assistant to Newmarket trainers Luca Cumani and Sir Michael Stoute.

McCain recounts some of his early flagbearers including Cloudy Lane, who landed the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival in 2012 in the trainer’s first year with a licence, and the stars of his training career so far in Grand National winner Ballabriggs, Chester Cup winner and Grade 1 jumps hero Overturn and Champion Hurdle runner-up Peddlers Cross.

The trainer gives us the inside story of his stars from yesteryear and looks to the future here in a journey which has so far comprised ups and downs – the nadir being the high-profile split with owners Paul and Clare Rooney and the removal of 60 horses from his yard back in October 2015.

The good times are coming back and Donald McCain ‘Jnr’ speaks about his professional as well as personal journey in a fascinating interview with leading presenter Nick Luck.

In This Story: Ireland

Ireland is an island in the North Atlantic. It is separated from Great Britain to its east by the North Channel, the Irish Sea, and St George’s Channel.

Geopolitically, Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland (officially named Ireland), which covers five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. As of 2016, 4.8 million people live in the Republic of Ireland, and 1.8 million live in Northern Ireland.

The Irish climate is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean and thus very moderate, and winters are milder than expected for such a northerly area, although summers are cooler than those in continental Europe. Rainfall and cloud cover are abundant.

A strong Irish culture exists, as expressed through Gaelic games, Irish music and the Irish language. The island’s culture shares many features with that of Great Britain, including the English language, and sports such as association football, rugby, horse racing, and golf.
