Racing TV published this video item, entitled “AD HOC beats WHAT’S UP BOYS in a cracking renewal of the 2001 Whitbread Gold Cup at Sandown Park” – below is their description.
Ruby Walsh brings Ad Hoc home for the first of two victories in the race then known as the Whitbread, just seven days after the horse had finished second to Gingembre in the Scottish National.
Here they get the better of What’s Up Boys, still a novice at this stage, and an impressive winner of the Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree on his previous start.
Walsh only rode the winner because his intended mount Papillon, fourth in a controversial renewal of the Grand National earlier in the month, was withdrawn due to the softening ground.
