Choosing a Horse to Back
Greys: There are four greys running the 2013 Grand National; Quel Esprit, Swing Bill, Chicago Grey and Tarquinius.
Manchester United: Sir Alex Ferguson has connections with two runners including; Harry the Viking & What a Friend.
French-bred: Last year’s winner Neptune Collonges was the fifth to be bred in France, after Mon Mome (2009), Lutteur III (1909), Reugny (1874), Alcibiade (1865). Seven French-breds run this year: Quel Esprit, Quiscover Fontaine, Saint Are, Swing Bill, Tarquinius, Tatenen, and Viking Blond.
New Zealand-bred: There have been three New Zealand-bred winners, Moifaa (1904), Seagram (1991) and Lord Gyllene (1997). Lost Glory will try to join them this year.
The Bookies Choice
On the eve of the Big Race – Friday 5th April 2013 – the bookmakers rate the leading fancies as: On His Own (9/1), Seabass (10/1), Colbert Station (11/1), Cappa Bleu (11/1), Chicago Grey (15/1), Imperial Commander (16/1), Teaforthree (16/1), 20/1 bar.
The table below displays the live best available price on the field for Grand National 2013.
My three tips for the big race, which I tweeted yesterday, are Seabass, for the first woman rider to win. Katie Walsh was third on this last year.
Chicago Grey, who is in good form, and if Paul Carberry is fit enough to ride, should be thereabouts. Davey Condon is no bad sub, though!
And finally, Rare Bob, who looks laid out for this one by Dessie Hughes. Bryan Cooper takes the reins.
Good Luck from@JoChantry.
