France will host the Ryder Cup 2018 following an announcement on 17th May 2011. The tournament will be played in Paris and Versailles following the successful bid which saw off contenders such as Germany, Sweden, Portugal, the Netherlands, Madrid and France.
The Ryder Cup has been held in continental Europe only once before. In 1997, the Ryder Cup was played in Valderrama in Spain.
It is estimated that 70,000 spectators will descend on Guyancourt to watch the European team take on the USA.
The President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, and the Prime Minister, Francois Fillon, both congratulated the French Golf Federation on their successful bid.
