French on Top in Vigo – FEI World Cup Showjumping

This weekend saw Vigo, Spain host the 11th round of the FEI World Cup Showjumping Western European League.

The French are certainly firing at the moment with veteran Michel Robert just pipping league leader Kevin Staut for the win. Robert, and his very consitent, lovely mare Kellemoi de Pepita won the jump-off round in what only could be described as pure class, stopping the clock at 45.88. League leader Kevin Staut and Silvana de Hus set the pace early, but eventually had to settle for second place.

“That turn at fence 15 was very difficult but I felt a win today was a real possibility for my horse” he said afterwards.  He analysed his jump-off round.  “I tried to go quickly between the first two fences and then more carefully, I took two short turns and on the last part I was very fast.  I had a good feeling about things today” Robert said.

17 of the 35 starters jumped clean in round one, meaning the jump-off round was always going to be  a thriller.
