Football: UEFA Europa League Fixtures, Wednesday 15 December 2010

There are 12 UEFA Europa League group matches scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 15th December 2010, as the final matches in groups D, E, F, J, K and L all take place this evening.

The top two sides from each group progress to the Round of 32 (24 UEFA Europa League Group qualifiers, and 8 UEFA Champions League Group Stage third place teams).

Group D

  • Club Bruges v Villarreal – Group D – Kick-Off (CET) 19:00
  • Dinamo Zagreb v PAOK Salonika – Group D – Kick-Off (CET) 19:00

Group D sees a three team showdown between Villareal (9 points), PAOK Salonika (8 points) and Dinamo Zagreb (7 points). Villareal visit bottom club, Club Bruges (3 points), knowing that a win will guarantee their place in the next round, while Dinamo Zagreb host PAOK Salonika in a match they must win at home if they are to progress.

Group E

  • AZ Alkmaar v BATE Borisov – Group E – Kick-Off (CET) 19:00
  • Dynamo Kiev v FC Sheriff Tiraspol – Group E – Kick-Off (CET) 19:00

Dynamo Kiev and BATE Borisov are already through from Group E, as they sit on 10 points apiece, six points clear of AZ Almaar and FC Sheriff Tiraspol in third and fourth place. The side which does best from the former two clubs this evening will top this group.

Group F

  • Lausanne Sports v Palermo – Group F – Kick-Off (CET) 19:00
  • Sparta Prague v CSKA Moscow – Group F – Kick-Off (CET) 19:00

Group F of Europa League 2010/11 is also already wrapped up. CSKA Moscow have already run away with this group, as they sit on a perfect 15 points. They’ll be looking to maintain that with the toughest fixture to date, away at Sparta Prague, who are already guaranteed second place in the group.

Group J

  • Karpaty Lviv v Paris SG – Group J – Kick-Off (CET) 21:05
  • Sevilla v Borussia Dortmund – Group J – Kick-Off (CET) 21:05

Group J is more open, as Paris SG (11 points) are just two ahead of Sevilla (9 points) who are one in front of tonight’s opponents, Borussia Dortmund. All three teams can win this group, this evening, though Sevilla v Dortmund is a straight shootout – if Dortmund fail to win, they are out; if Sevilla lose, they are out. Its advantage Sevilla, at home, as a draw will see them through. Paris Saint Germain know that a point away at bottom club, Karpaty Lviv, should be enough for the group victory.

Group K

  • Liverpool v FC Utrecht – Group K – Kick-Off (CET) 21:05
  • Napoli v Steaua Bucharest – Group K – Kick-Off (CET) 21:05

Liverpool are certain to qualify from Group K, but any of the other three sides has a theoretical chance of qualification. Steaua Bucharest are in the driving seat on 6 points, while Napoli and FC Utrecht are level on 4 points. A win for either in the Napoli v Steaua Bucharest match would see them through – providing Utrecht are held by Liverpool to at least a draw. If Utrecht do win, it could come down to count-back to decide which side is second, unless Bucharest pick up a win: any win for them would guarantee their progress. An interesting prospect, which should equal excitement on the field of play.

Group L

  • Besiktas v Rapid Vienna – Group L – Kick-Off (CET) 21:05
  • FC Porto v CSKA Sofia – Group L – Kick-Off (CET) 21:05

Porto (13 points) and Besiktas (10 points) are already through Group L, and their positions are also all but assured, therefore these matches may see several players rested from either outfit. A point for Porto would guarantee the group win.
