UEFA Champions League 2013/2014 Quarter Final First Leg Results – Tuesday 1 April 2014

The opening legs of the first two UEFA Champions League 2013/2014 quarter finals took place on the evening of Tuesday 1st April 2014, with several European giants in action and looking to get one foot in the 2014 semi-final.

Manchester United v Bayern Munich

Manchester United 1-1 Bayern Munchen
Vidić 58′ (HT 0-0) Schweinsteiger 67′

Under fire David Moyes’ men looked to be visibly lifted in their clash with holding champs, Bayern, and their manager let off some of the pressure he is currently under when Nemanja Vidic opened the scoring from a Wayne Rooney corner on 58 minutes in a hard-fought encounter at Old Trafford.

But Bayern will return the happier of the two sides, after Bastien Schweinsteiger grabbed an equalising away goal just nine minutes later.

The match finished 1-1 leaving an all-important showdown in Munich on the cards for fans of each of these huge clubs.

Barcelona v Atletico Madrid

Barcelona 1-1 Atletico Madrid
Neymar 71′ (HT 0-0) Diego 56′

Barcelona were sluggish to get started, at home to an Atletico side which currently sits one point ahead of them in an ultra-tight La Liga table, and it was not against the run of play when Diego struck a wonder goal to take a 1-0 away lead for the visitors to the Nou Camp.

A supreme threaded ball by Andres Iniesta set Neymar free to curl home an equaliser, before Barca pressed for a winning goal against one of the season’s most rock-steady defences in European football. The defenders held firm, giving Atletico the marginal advantage of one away goal from this enthralling 1-1 draw.

Everything is to play for in the second leg of each of these semi final matches.
