Football: UEFA Champions League 2011/12 Play-off Round Draw

The Play-Off Round of the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League was made at 12 noon CET on Friday 5th August 2011, when the 20 teams who had qualified for this stage discovered which team stood between them and a place in the UEFA Champions League Group Stages for the 2011/12 season.

The tie of the Play-Off round sees Arsenal of the Barclays Premier League face Italian side Udinese in the “Leage Route” selection of teams. Another team which has been in the Champions League Final in recent years who is forced to take part in a play-off this term is Bayern Munich, who have been handed a tie with FC Zurich.

Rubin Kazan, the surprise package from Barcelona’s group last season, face a stiff test in their play-off with France’s Lyon.

The winners in each of the two-legged matches will go into the draw for the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League group stages. The losing team from each match will take part in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League group stage, so this is an important playoff for all concerned.
