The draw for the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League took place in Monte Carlo, Monaco, on Thursday 30th August 2012, and produced eight interesting groups.
Holders Chelsea FC drew Italian club Juventus in Group E. Group D looks to be extremely tricky, with English Premier League Champions, Manchester City, drawn alongside Real Madrid, and German Champs, Borussia Dortmund. Ajax of Amsterdam make up that four team group, which must see one European giant fall out of European competition altogether.
Perennial UEFA knock-out side, Barcelona, are in Group G with Spartak, Benfica and Celtic, while last year’s finalists, Bayern Munich, are in Group F with BATE Borisov, Valencia and Lille.
Manchester United, who have had a disappointing time in Europe last season by their high standards, are drawn in Group H with Galatasaray and Braga.
