Npower Championship 2011/12: Reading 2-2 Millwall

Millwall were disappointed to see a two goal advantage over Reading at the Madejski Stadium in the opening match of their 2011/12 Npower Championship season on Saturday 6th August 2011, as Reading worked back from 2-0 down to share a 2-2 draw.

The scores were locked at 0-0 following a tight opening 45 minutes, but Millwall were soon two goals in front after Henderson (49) and Marquis (62) both scored headed goals.

However, Matthieu Manset came on for Reading after 68 minutes for Robson-Kanu and set about first pegging one goal back with a scorching shot from 22 yards on 86 minutes, before he was picked out by a pinpoint cross to head home the equaliser on 89 minutes.

Despite controlling possession for much of the match, Reading rarely looked like scoring until the introduction of Manset proved to be the catalyst for change, and Millwall, who more than worked Reading goalkeeper Federici, will be more than a little disappointed that they failed to take home three points from this performance.

Reading, as in their Playoff final, showed that though they are able to control possession, they are prone to mistakes at the back, and a little slow to get started with their own attacking moves, which suggests their fans may well be in for another rollercoaster of a season in 11/12.

Marquis 62
