Npower Championship 2011/12: Peterborough 2-1 Crystal Palace

Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough came back from a goal behind against Crystal Palace to record an opening day victory to get their 2011/12 Npower Championship season off to a flying start at London Road.

The Posh trailed 1-0 at half time following a well taken 33rd minute goal from Sean Scannell, who clipped the ball over Paul Jones well.

In the second half, however, the home side fought back. On 58 minutes Grant McCann drilled a low shot into the bottom corner to take the score to 1-1 before David Ball headed home unmarked on 73 minutes to take the lead, and the victory.

Palace only won one match away from home last season, and only narrowly stayed in the Championship as a result. Having thrown away a decent position in this match against a Peterborough side who themselves may spend much of this term looking down rather than up, they look set for another difficult season.

Peterborough, at least in the second 45 minutes, produced enough to show they should be able to remain in this league, but will be hoping to put together a better performance over 90 minutes if they are to make any impression on the top half of the table.
