Fulham Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer to Miss Up to 6 Weeks Through Spinal Injury

Fulham goalkeeper mark schwarzer to miss up to 6 weeks through spinal injury 1Fulham F.C. have today confirmed that their 39 year old Australian goalkeeper, Mark Schwarzer, will miss up to six weeks as a result of a spinal injury suffered by the player during Saturday’s Barclays Premier League defeat to Swansea.

Schwarzer fell awkwardly in Saturday’s match.

In a statement issued on Wednesday 14th December 2011, Fulham said Schwarzer had “sustained a compression injury to his thoracic spine and that he will be unavailable for four to six weeks, and is expected to return to play towards the end of January.”

The injury has caused manager Martin Jol to recall goalkeeper David Stockdale, who had been on loan at Ipswich Town of the Championship.

Fulham are to face Odense at Craven Cottage this evening needing a win to secure their passage into the knockout phase of UEFA Europa League 2011/12. 21 year old Neil Etheridge is expected to deputise in Schwarzer’s absence tonight.
