Football: Barclays Premier League Fixtures, Sunday 20 March 2011

Two big Barclays Premier League fixtures are scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday 20th March 2011.

As the league approaches the business end, every match takes on a higher importance, none more so than this Sunday’s matches, which pits 6th against 9th and 3rd against 4th.

Sunderland v Liverpool – kick-off (GMT) 13:30

Sunderland welcome Liverpool to the Stadium of Light in the North East of England knowing that a home win will see them climb from 9th place to 7th place in the table, one point behind Liverpool, who are placed 6th. Liverpool will be doing all in their power to secure the opposite result, however, as a win for them will see them up to within four points of Tottenham Hotspur, who occupy the final guaranteed European qualification spot, in 5th.

Chelsea v Man City – kick-off (GMT) 16:00

Chelsea v Man City is a huge match in terms of the Championship as, if either of these sides has designs on the 2010/2011 crown, a loss today will be devastating. City are 3rd in the league, two points ahead of Chelsea going into this match at Stamford Bridge, though Chelsea have a game in hand. If the hosts are victorious, they’ll climb to third place, nine points behind leaders Manchester United with a game in hand over them. If City can get the win, they’ll go within seven points of the top of the table, with United still to play Chelsea and Arsenal in the league.

This match is, as a result, a Must-Win game for either club. Chelsea, with home advantage, must be favourites, but the exciting and expensive Manchester City can never be discounted: all of which adds up to a fascinating match.
