Football: UEFA Champions League 2011 Quarter Final Fixtures, Tuesday 5 April 2011

The business end of the UEFA Champions League 2011 competition starts on the evening of Tuesday 5th April 2011, as the opening legs of the first two Quarter Final matches take place.

Inter Milan v Schalke 04 – Kick-Off (CET) 20:45

The holding Champions of Europe, Inter Milan, knocked out German opponents, Bayern Munich, in the Round of 16, despite losing the opening leg at home. They will be looking for a better performance against another German opponent in Shalke 04, though they may be unlikely to receive an easy ride against a Shalke team already out of contention in their domestic league.

Inter were smashed 3-0 in their league derby with AC Milan on Saturday, while Shalke’s last league outing also ended in defeat, as they fell to a 2-0 away loss at Bayer Leverkusen: both sides will hope for better in this important fixture.

The winner of this match, over the two legs, will play the winner of Chelsea or Manchester United.

Real Madrid v Tottenham – Kick-Off (CET) 20:45

Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur have already exceeded expectations in their first ever UEFA Champions League campaign, though they’ll be hungry for more from the competition which has already seen them put out AC Milan in the Round of 16. Real Madrid coach, Jose Mourinho, has a remarkable success rate in this competition, however, so Spurs will need to be up to their very best if their are to return from the Bernebao with a positive result.

Both sides were poor, and goalless, in their domestic league at the weekend: Spurs were held to a 0-0 by bottom of the table side, Wigan, while Real Madrid were upset by a 1-0 loss at home to Sporting Gijon.

Whoever wins out of Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur will face the winner of Barcelona or Shakhtar Donetsk in the Semi-Final of UEFA Champions League 2011.
