Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane both agreed that Harry Maguire was “lucky” not to receive a red card for an incident in which he appeared to kick towards Chelsea’s Batshuashi, during Man Utd’s 2-0 win away at Stamford Bridge.

The comparison is drawn by Sky Sports with a recent red card for Tottenham’s Son, for a similar looking act. It was, the pundits suggest, perhaps owing to Maguire’s character and England status that he received a little more benefit of the doubt.

The player himself explained that he raised his leg to prevent being landed upon, but admitted that it may have looked worse on camera, and was nervous while VAR reviewed the incident, when speaking after the match.
