Newcastle United, the Barclays Premier League club which sacked successful manager Chris Hughton on Monday, is to award the job to Alan Pardew.
In rumours circulating this morning, it had been said that Pardew had been lined up for the club for “as long as ten days” and that he will be appointed manager of Newcastle United before the weekend meeting with Liverpool.
Newcastle are in 11th place in the Barclays Premier League following their promotion from the Championship under Hughton. His dismissal on Monday came as a shock to playing staff in the club, but club officials said they were looking for a manager with “more experience”.
Pardew has much experience, but not a huge amount of that coming at football’s top level.
The former West Ham and Charlton manager has experienced relegation from English football’s top flight twice, so his ability to consolidate Newcastle’s position cannot be considered to be superior to that of Hughton, who must, on the face of it, be thoroughly disappointed to lose his job to be replaced by a manager of Pardew’s stature.
There has, as yet, been no official announcement from Newcastle United regarding their new managerial appointment.
