Blackburn narrowly pulled themselves out of the bottom three relegation places after picking up a point from their Barclays Premier League 2011/12 match away at Everton, in coming back from a goal behind, to draw 1-1 at Goodison Park, on the afternoon of Saturday 21st January 2012.
Everton had got off to the best of starts when Tim Cahill (24) scored his first goal in over a year, but Blackburn fought their way back into the match and were rewarded in the second half when David Goodwillia (72) scored to level.
In what was a very even match – the sides had roughly the same amount of possession and clear-cut chances – the final whistle blew with the scores locked at 1-1, meaning the teams shared a point apiece.
Blackburn move up to 17th in the table – level on points with Wolves, who were beaten by Villa at home this afternoon – importantly, psychologically, this position is out of the drop zone. Everton, as a result of another lacklustre performance, are 14th, just six points ahead – if they are not careful, their fans could begin casting nervous glances downwards should results fail to materialise in the next several weeks.
