Football: Blackpool 3-1 Tottenham, Barclays Premier League 2010/11

Tottenham Hotspur missed an opportunity to go third in the Barclays Premier League, while Blackpool eased their relegation worries by winning 3-1 at home to Spurs, despite having only 4 shots on target to Tottenham’s 10.

Blackpool’s clinical finishing proved to be the difference as the hosts led 2-0 at half time after an 18th minute Charlie Adam penalty, which came after DJ Campbell was brought down in the box by Bassong, was followed by Campbell scoring a goal of his own on 44 minutes.

When Ormerod scored on 80 minutes, despite Tottenham having peppered Blackpool’s goal in the second half, to make it 3-0, the match was over, despite Pavlyuchenko scoring a consolation for the visitors deep into injury time, on 90+3 minutes.

Tottenham will be most disappointed that nearly 60% of the possession, and 25 attempts at goal – 10 of which were on target – compared to Blackpool’s 8 total shots (4 on target; 4 off target) did not yield them a single point.

Spurs are now just two points ahead of Chelsea, who have a game in hand on them: they remain fourth for the time being.

Blackpool climb to 12th, with five clear points between them and the bottom three: the avoidance of which is their clear goal for this season.
