Football: Barclays Premier League Results, Tuesday 25 January 2011

Two Barclays Premier League matches took place on the evening of Tuesday 25th January 2011.

Blackpool 2-3 Man Utd

Manchester United displayed their mettle and their title credentials by coming back from a 2-0 half-time deficit away at Blackpool. Cathcart (15) and DJ Campbell (43) gave home fans hope, before United finished the match with goals from Berbatov (72, 88) and Hernandez (74). The second half introduction of ever-green Ryan Giggs proved to be the catalyst for United’s turnaround.

Blackpool will be disappointed that they did not get a penalty when Rafael appeared to foul Varney in the box with the score at 2-0 early in the second half.

United now sit five points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League table.

Wigan 1-2 Aston Villa

Aston Villa gained their second victory in as many games with an important away win at Wigan.

The score was 0-0 at half time following a nervy opening 45 minutes, but Agbonlahor (49) and an Ashley Young (62) penalty gave the Villans a two goal cushion. They were to need this, as McCarthy (80) netted for the hosts with ten minutes remaining, though Wigan were unable to pick up the further goal required to secure a point.

A deserved win for Villa sees them move up to 13th, six points above the bottom three.
