Wolves v West Brom – Kick-Off (GMT) 13:30
The day kicks off with a Midlands derby that has all the more added spice for the close-to-relegation positions that both of these teams find themselves in. Mick McCarthy’s Wolverhampton Wanderers have been playing better than their 17th place in the league – safe by goal difference alone – position. Likewise, Roy Hodgson’s West Bromwich Albion have been finding it difficult to pick up results from matches they are dominating this season, a trait which sees them just five points from danger, in 15th.
A win for the Baggies would see them pull a good gap on the struggle for safety, and would, for the time being, at least, make that a five horse race. A win for Wolves would put West Brom squarely in that battle.
Wolves score freely at home, while West Brom are organised in defence, but can find goals harder to come by. If Wolves can score more than one, they could pick up a much needed home win, while West Brom need to convert pressure into goals.
Aston Villa v Man City – Kick-Off (GMT) 16:00
Manchester City travel to Aston Villa looking for a win to return to the top of the table.
After one of their least inspiring seasons inrecent years, Villa are in danger of getting pulled into the relegation scrap, so need every point they can get. It looks unlikely, however, that they’ll get anything from this home match with City, despite their visitor’s recent wobble, unless they can improve their defensive play.
City are not without troubles of their own, however: the Toure brothers are yet to return, Balotelli is banned, and Kompany and Nasri are only recently recovered from injury, which means City may well continue to lack the cohesion they’ve missed in recent weeks.
A draw might just be on the cards for Villa, providing they can shut up shop at the back.
