Barclays Premier League 2014/15 Fixtures, Saturday 4 October 2014

Six Barclays Premier League 2014/15 fixtures are due to take place on the afternoon and evening of Saturday 4 October 2014, as clubs from across England and Wales look to make an impact during match week seven of the competition.

At Anfield, Liverpool will be looking to get their haltering season back on track when they face West Brom at home. Brendan Rodgers has this week admitted that Liverpool are once again in a “transitional” stage, and the Reds will be looking to find the fire power they have appeared to lack since losing Louis Suarez in the summer. West Brom, for their part, have an above average record against Liverpool in recent seasons: the last five Premier League meetings between the two sides have the Baggies Pl 5 W3 D1 L1.

Also at 3pm, Sunderland will entertain Stoke at the Stadium of Light, with both sides looking to push towards the top half of the table.

Two recently promoted sides, Leicester and Burnley will meet at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium, with the hosts enjoying a much better start to their return to the top flight than their visitors. Both teams will have identified this fixture as a realistic prospect of points when the fixture list was announced, so this will be an interesting marker for followers of either club.

Swansea host Newcastle in a match from which Newcastle’s much maligned manager, Alan Pardew, will be hoping to get a result. Last season Newcastle were 7 points ahead of Swansea, as the sides finished the Premier League in 10th and 12th places respectively. This term, the Swans have been in excellent heart, and find themselves fifth. Newcastle, by contrast, have been frankly dire, and are second-bottom, though there were signs last weekend that things may be about to change.

Hull welcome Crystal Palace in the other 3 o’clock fixture, in another of those apparent six-pointers between two sides who both could finish closer to the top than the bottom on current performances.

The day’s late kick-off is between Aston Villa and Manchester City, with the visitors needing all three points to remain in touch with current leaders, Chelsea, who play Arsenal on Sunday at Stamford Bridge. Last season’s champs have not quite shown the all around performances which saw them destroy many good sides last season – if they do spring to life, Aston Villa can expect a difficult evening. Having said that, Villa have been better this term, and will pose a threat to their visitors if they are off colour once more.
