Below is how the Barclays Premier League 2013/14 looked after all but one of the match week eight fixtures had taken place, at the end of Sunday 20th October 2013.
Arsenal were top of the table, following their 4-1 win at home to Norwich, closely followed by Chelsea who won by the same margin against Cardiff at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool and Man City made up the next two Champions League places, though Spurs were hot on their heels following a good 2-0 win away at Aston Villa.
Man Utd slipped to 9th in the table following their point at home to Southampton on a weekend when most of the big clubs gathered wins.
The bottom three was made up of Norwish, Crystal Palace and lacklustre Sunderland. While Palace have a Monday night fixture at home to Fulham in which they can improve their lot, they will not be able to change their league position for they are four points behind Norwich. A gap is beginning to open at the bottom, and it looks like the fight may well prove to be from the five or six clubs looking to avoid 18th position.
