Football: FA Carling Cup Quarter Final Results, Tuesday 30 November 2010

FA Carling Cup action took place yesterday evening with Quarter Final matches taking place between Arsenal and Wigan and Man Utd and West Ham.

Arsenal 2-0 Wigan

Arsenal booked their League Cup Semi-Final spot with a comfortable 2-0 home victory over Wigan Athletic.

An Alcaraz own goal late in the first half gave the Gunners the lead, before Nicklas Bendtner sealed the victory on 67 minutes with an easy finish at point-blank range.

Arsenal were easily the better side, with a superior shot count, but Wigan matched them in terms of possession without getting off many shots on target against Arsenal’s tight rearguard.

West Ham 4-0 Man Utd

West Ham United got themselves a welcome break from their abject league position by upsetting the current Barclays Premier League table toppers, Man Utd, with a surprising 4-0 home victory.

Two goals in the first half from American defender Jonathan Spector sent the home fans into raptures before Carlton Cole added a brace of his own in the second period to send Sir Alex Ferguson and his men home scratching their heads as to where West Ham’s sudden improvement in form had come from.

West Ham make their first Semi-Final appearance in 20 years, and will be hoping the momentum gained from this and their recent league win will send them climbing in the Premier League, too.

Manchester United will hope for much better in their other three competitions.
