Football: Arsenal 3-0 Ipswich – Gunners Through to Carling Cup 2011 Final

Arsenal made it through to the League Cup Final for 2011 with a 3-1 aggregate victory, coming courtesy of this evening’s 3-0 home win over Ipswich Town at the Emirates Stadium.

Ipswich carried a 1-0 lead from the first leg at Portman Road into this tie, and Gunners’ fans were beginning to get nervous as their team failed to get on level terms against their Championship opposition in the first hour of play. However, a blistering 16 minute spell saw the Premier League outfit pull out an insurmountable lead.

Bendtner (61) got Arsenal level on aggregate with a fine finish, before Koscielny (64) put them in front. When Fabregas (77) added a third, the match looked to be all over, particularly as Arsenal were retaining the lion’s share of possession.

So it would prove at the final whistle, as Arsenal were confirmed the first finalists of the 2011 Carling Cup.

Arsenal will play the winners of Birmingham and West Ham, who resume their two-legged semi-final tomorrow evening at 19:45 GMT – West Ham lead 2-1 from the first leg.
