Blackburn Rovers 1-2 Bolton Wanderers – Barclays Premier League 2011/12 Result

Bolton leapfrogged Blackburn Rovers in the Barclays Premier League 2011/12 table after producing a 2-1 victory away at Rovers’ Ewood Park on the evening of Tuesday 20th December 2011.

Mark Davies scored after Blackburn failed to clear a Nigel Reo-Coker burst into box in the fifth minute.

On the half hour mark, Reo-Coker added a second with a brilliant turning shot within the Blackburn area.

Rovers came back into the match at the end of the first half, but shot wide. Bolton dominated the first half, and only desperate blocks prevented Wanderers from adding a third killer goal before the break.

Blackburn improved in the second half and were back into the match when the only in-form Rovers player, Yakubu, scored with a well taken one-on-one finish into the bottom right hand corner on 67 minutes.

Pratley could have sealed the win for Bolton at the death, but the player curled his shot just wide after being played in by Petrov. He could have been made to pay for this error when Rovers’ centre back Samba leapt to head home from six yards, but saw his powerful header bounce just wide.

Steve Kean’s days as Blackburn manager could well be numbered: they will be the bottom club come Christmas, and only one side in 19 years has survived in the Premier League from that lowly position.
