UEFA Champions League football returned yesterday evening with eight Group Stage fixtures taking place. there were few upsets in a night which largely followed the form book, except, perhaps, for Basle who picked up three points with an impressive 1-3 victory away to Italian side, Roma.
Italian teams did not fare well on the night, as AC Milan travelled to Real Madrid and were beaten by two first half goals – scored within one minute of each other – to nil.
Barclays Premier League Champions Chelsea secured a tricky 2-0 win away to Spartak Moscow while their London compatriots Arsenal were in goal-scoring form as they ran out impressive 5-1 home winners against Shakhtar Donetsk – with goals shared by five different players.
