Inter Milan have knocked Chelsea out of the 2010 UEFA Champions League after defeating them away at Stamford bridge by one goal to nil through Samuel Eto’o.
The 1-0 away victory meant Internazionale won through the two legged tie 1-3 on aggregate after the side, which is managed by former Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho, had taken a 2-1 home leg scoreline into tonight’s game.
The result means that Chelsea exit the tournament in the last 16 phase, while Inter progress to the Quarter Final stage.
Samuel Eto’o scored the winning goal of the evening after receiving a chipped pass from Wesley Sneijder, who had enjoyed an excellent game. Chelsea were pressing hard to seek the goal that they needed to level the tie on aggregate, but Inter, in common with most Mourinho sides, were resolute in defence throughout.
This goal effectively sealed the tie, coming as it did on 79 minutes, as Chelsea would have to score twice to take the match into extra time. Their hopes were finished when striker Didier Drogba was sent off on 87 minutes for a second bookable offence.
