Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo, has won a battle with British newspaper The Daily Telegraph over a 2008 article which claimed the player, then of Manchester United, had partied and drunk champagne in Los Angeles when he was injured.
Helen Morris, for the Telegraph accepted that the allegations the paper made were false and that they should never have been published.
As a result, Mr Ronaldo has been paid undisclosed damages by the newspaper.
The Telegraph article had claimed that the player “put down” his crutches and ordered “$10,000 worth of Cristal champagne,” when, in fact, the player drank energy drinks with his friends in a private corner of the nightclub, according to Allan Dunlavy, Ronaldo’s solicitor.
