Nigeria have named their 23 man squad for South Africa’s 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Fans leaving comments on The Global Herald regarding the provisional squad selection have largely expressed dissatisfaction with the selection of Everton player, Yakubu, and Portsmouth’s Kanu, both of whom, it is felt, are being selected on reputation, when there are younger alternatives available to coach Lars Lagerbeck.
That said, there is a good mixture of experience and youth, as well as a mix of home-based and European-based players within this Nigeria squad.
John Mikel Obi has been replaced by Brown Ideye of Sochaux, France after the Chelsea player failed to recover from a recent knee operation.
Nigeria play in the tricky Group B along with Argentina, Greece and south Korea, and it will be interesting to see how well this team matches up with one of the tournament favourites when Nigeria face Argentina in their opening match on 12th June.
