Manchester United’s exciting midfielder Nani, who can play on either flank, has been ruled out of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa after the player failed to recover from a collar bone injury suffered in training with his Portugal teammates on Friday last week.
Nani will be replaced in the Portugal 23 man squad by Ruben Amorim, who plays for Benfica in the Portuguese top-flight.
Nani will be a loss for Portugal, who are a leading contender to lift this summer’s tournament, which begins on Friday 11th June, as the player has enjoyed probably his best ever season with Manchester United, exhibiting an increase in end product to match his raw pace and dribbling ability.
Portugal will play in World Cup Group G alongside Brazil, Ivory coast and North Korea (Korea DPR).
