Milovan Rajevac, the Ghanain coach, has raised eyebrows with the omission of a number of senior players, including Laryea Kingston, Eric Addo and Haminu Dramani, but he will be taking Kevin-Prince Boateng.
Boateng is going to be an interesting addition to the squad as the Portsmouth player featured for Germany – also in Ghana’s Group D – as a youth. To compound matters, it was Boateng’s ungainly tackle which injured Germany captain Michael Ballack in the 2010 FA Cup Final, and effectively put the German out of the tournament. All of which add to an incredible set of circumstances which may well provide a frisson to the group match of 23 June between the sides.
Ghana will face Australia, Germany and Serbia in the difficult Group D.
