The Philadelphia Eagles have been surprisingly quiet in the offseason market, but that just changed. The team was reportedly working on a deal that would send Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay to Philadelphia, and the eagle has landed. The 29-year-old cornerback has reportedly been traded in a deal that includes the Eagles sending the Lions a third- and fifth-round pick in 2020, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, but will also include a new multiyear extension that is quite massive.
Slay agreed to terms on a three-year, $50 million deal that includes $30 million in guarantees, paying him more on average annually than what Byron Jones — their initial free agency target — will receive with the Miami Dolphins.
One of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, Slay has been tasked with covering the opposing team’s No. 1 wide receiver over the past several seasons. Even battling a hamstring injury in 2019 couldn’t slow Slay down as opposing quarterbacks had just an 81.6 passer rating when targeting Slay, who led the Lions with two interceptions and 13 passes defensed.
