Tour de France 2020 – One day One story : Severe weather 2019

The 19th stage of Tour 2019 is the one with all the twists and turns. Whilst the French public believe in Thibaut Pinot’s chances of a final victory, the leader of Groupama-FDJ is giving up his arms, having been defeated at the start of the stage by severe thigh pains. The spectators are still clinging on to the Yellow Jersey worn by Alaphilippe, which was snatched from him just as Egan Bernal was carrying out his offensive by climbing the Iseran Pass. The Colombian’s advantage proved decisive as the times recorded would be used to establish the overall standings. Indeed, while the peloton was moving in dry conditions, a deluge of hail fell on the other side of the mountain and created a landslide that made the road totally impassable. The stage is stopped about twenty kilometres from the finish. Bernal, with a 45” lead over Alaphilippe, his first chaser in the general standings, opened the doors to success.
