England v New Zealand | Lord’s Test 2021 Day 2 Highlights

England & Wales Cricket Board published this video item, entitled “England v New Zealand Day 2 Highlights | England Rally After Conway 200 | 1st LV= Insurance Test” on their official YouTube channel.

England got back into this test with an exciting spell of quick wickets, largely thanks to Mark Wood, who collected 3-7 in a spell in the middle of the day which was badly needed, as he worked a little bit of smart-thinking to force Nicholls (61) to hook to Robinson who took a much needed catch in the deep.

But for last man Wagner blasting a quickfire 25 not out – while Conway reached 200 with a top-edge for six from Wood – it could have been considered all England’s day. As it was, New Zealand saw a well above par start turn into a solid total of 378 all out. Conway could consider himself a little unfortunate not to have carried his bat in this, his opening test match, as he never looked like getting out, and was dismissed eventually by the finest of margins following a firm throw back from the deep, as he scampered to help his partner to a second run. He came very close to being only the third debutant in history to carry his bat as an opener.

If New Zealand felt some despair about the middle part of their innings, it was quickly replaced with some delight as they quickly removed Sibley (0) – LBW in the narrowest of circumstances – and Crawley (2) – who edged one he shouldn’t have played at from Southee, before Burns and Root settled the ship to leave them on a precarious 111 overnight, two down.
