Speaking after his Fight of the Year contender against Leigh Wood, Conlan told how he was “devastated” following the 12th round knockout, which saw him leave the arena on a stretcher, having been knocked through the ropes, out cold, after an epic bout he had looked to be winning.
On his health, following worrying scenes at the end of the fight, he said “all the scans were clear,” describing the checkups he received as “precautions.”
He described the fight before the knockout as “a masterclass” and told how he “got tagged” with just a minute and a half remaining. “I’m not going to say Leigh is the biggest puncher I’ve ever fought, because it would be a lie,” but “I didn’t see that one coming,” and “it was a good shot, fair play to him.”
He also paid respect to the way his opponent conducted himself after the knockout – as the Notts fighter was asking the crowd to calm down while Conlan received treatment – calling his opposite number “a good human being.”
