Men’s 100 metre World Record holder, Usain Bolt of Jamaica, has today announced that he is to miss the rest of the 2010 season following a medical consultation regarding a lower back injury.
The news comes just four days after Bolt was beaten for the first time by American Tyson Gay in Stockholm.
Bolt will miss the remaining two Diamond League meets after he consulted a specialist in Munich this week. Though he could run with the injury to his lower back, Bolt feels that with 2011 (World Championships) and 2012 (London Olympic Games) ahead, to do so could possibly hinder his chances in those major championships.
The decision, however, means that fans of athletics will have to wait at least until 2011 to see Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell – the fastest three men on the planet – take to the track to compete against each other.
